Viv Gurrey serves as Strategic and Governance Advisor to Prop. She provides executive-level advice on governance design, strategic development, compliance and organisational transformation, helping clients navigate the intersection of people, performance, and purpose across geographic borders. Viv focuses on delivering strategic and governance counsel enabling Prop to align talent, people, performance, and purpose in an evolving business landscape.
With over 35 years experience spanning corporate, NGO, technology, and public sectors across New Zealand, Asia Pacific, UK, Pacific, and Papua New Guinea, Viv delivers transformation, strengthens governance, and achieves operational excellence. She leads organisations through change, diversifies revenue, and drives sustainability. Viv drives performance through people, builds high-performing teams, and forges trusted relationships across industries and geographies.
From 2019 to 2025, Viv served as Chief Executive of the Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ), modernising a 2,500-member body. She strengthened governance, championed digital transformation, and expanded initiatives, achieving efficiencies, service delivery, and revenue diversification through partnerships and programs.
Viv served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SAP New Zealand, turning a loss-making subsidiary into a top performer with 318% revenue growth. She began her career with IBM in the UK, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Pacific, partnering with UNICEF on maternity social impact programs.
Viv held senior IBM roles, leading the Quality Institute—precursor to IBM Global Services—focusing on performance and design. She consulted with KPMG on governance and planning.
Viv’s governance experience proves extensive. She served as Deputy Chair of the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand, Chair of its Committees. Viv acted as Independent Board Member and Ministerial Adviser at Stand Children’s Services for 9+ years, member of advisory councils. She founded the Dyslexia Foundation and Parenting Council of New Zealand, advised ministers in health, social and education matters.
